Going the Nuclear way

Just a thought of a 'Joint Family' and your brain takes no time in painting the picture of a benevolent mother and a father, a brother and a sister-in-law showering all the goodies over you, and grandparents who would live longer than you had expected (unsurprisingly, these long years might even extend to hundreds and hundreds of years). You could actually visualize that 'PERFECT FAMILY' within a span of five minutes.

But wait. Your thought process won't end here. This happy looking family is incomplete without a villain. Going by our saas-bahu sagas, no story can end without the family members facing the dramatic twists and turns in their life. Hence, the presence of a vamp wearing neatly plaited sarees with backless blouses, a long, bright bindi and a 'teekhi, tez talwar zuban' is mandatory.

Once we open our eyes, we ponder - "Is this the reality? Does anything called a 'PERFECT FAMILY' exist on this earth?"

Our illusion gets shattered on reading the newspaper. News about dowry deaths, property disputes, domestic violence, sexual and mental abuse seem to have bombarded the pages of newspapers. The rosy picture that we had imagined appears meaningless.

The fact is that joint family is definitely not all joy and laughter. It would be very unrealistic to expect it to be so. Tensions and conflicts among the members, each member playing games and trying to score over others, disputes over property and money matters have proved that being a part of a nuclear family is undoubtedly, a BETTER CHOICE.
