Boy’s toys!

by: Sonal Tiwari

Perhaps the only thing men crave about having the smallest… don’t be scared guys, I’m only talking about gadgets! Every thing else is just right!
With the new trend of being a tech-freak, it’s no surprise that today we see people spend huge amounts of cash on gadgets that have thousands of features of which we merely use just a few.
Take the case of the latest cell phones; they might have features like an inbuilt GPS system or a software that enables you to watch TV, yet we only see the owner using it for the three main functions: SMS, music and camera… calls also once in a blue moon.
But all said and done, these toys are more of a status symbol than just mere utilities, a wristwatch with an inbuilt music player is bound to catch a few eyes… isn’t that what every guy wants after all?
But these toys are not a new trend, as a matter of fact, the tradition of sporting expensive gadgets has been running for quite some time… leave aside quality, the trend has been there for long and a best living example for this is none other than famous Rolex. The brand itself speaks out the personality of the beholder!
With watches ranging from a price tag of 2.5 lakh onwards, this company has made a long way in the timepiece industry. But don’t think that this is the only thing that’s got a name, you’re wrong, because when it comes to giving a stiff competition, other brands too are not behind, with players such as Jaeger-Le Coultre, Rado, Omega and Tissot; there’s sure gotta be a clash amongst the titans (no brand intended!).
But these are only timepieces that merely tell the time, other than being jewels, what really brings out the masculinity in a guy I none other than the best place for enjoying the game, his latest home theatre system. And selling like hot cakes, the latest one is brought by none other than giant Samsung, the Mosel. Imagine guys… no more buying tickets for your favorite match, this gem of a TV allows you to enjoy your sports right in your living room. Not just that, with an inbuilt card reader this theatre system allows you to connect via USB onto your PC, you’re gonna love it… just be careful of your neglected partner!
Jumping in the bandwagon of High Definition is another name ‘Sharp’, with the latest LC-46G7M, this TV not only has the latest features, it also focuses on one major aspect of all gadgets, ‘their looks’. When switched off, this LCD looks like a million bucks!
Some girls, on the other hand, like to believe that every man has a child within him (to the extent that it’s the only thing they have within.), admit it guys… we still think about playing… in a slightly different way no doubt! But we do want our share of fun too, and what is child fun without games? It is for that purpose that three major companies are facing a cut throat competition amongst themselves in the gaming industry, Windows X-Box, Sony Playstation and Nintendo.
With the launch of the latest gaming console the X-Box 360, it was high time that long time foe Sony had to launch his Playstation 3, and what a bombastic response it was, launching the ultimate console, with a blue ray disk reader, the competition has been crushed, no wonder that it has been called a ‘Half Supercomputer’.
But what about the more mature ones? Well, for all you music aficionados who like to stay on the move, there’s good news… no more compromising bad sound for phone connectivity, Apple has finally released its ‘i-phone’, with the sound quality of an i-pod, this multimedia phone comes with an inbuilt digital camera, so go ahead and flaunt your way to fame, this baby is sure to get the attention of some other babies (if you know what I mean!).
Gadgets have influenced our way of life tremendously, the lifestyle of today’s modern people purely depends on such high tech toys, be it the new phone on the block or the latest gaming console, Indians have now accepted this trend of being tech-freaks… and it suits them too, after all, we are the largest market for gadgets in the world!
